Spa Delights are Everywhere ~ Open your mind to the opportunities!

Beyond the destination spa, there's a world of bliss waiting for you – if you're open to the possibilities...

What crosses your mind when you think of a spa? Pampered luxury? Rich feng shui décor? Relaxing music? Plush robes and body-sensual services? And all those luxurious services offered – wraps, scrubs, facials, massages… Bliss!

Does your mind float to uber-luxurious spa resorts that are the immersive, all-in, body experience from check-in to check-out? Or do you envision a day trip with the girls or your lover for a massage or facial to add a relaxing addition to your travels? Maybe it’s time to consider a third kind of “spa” – a non-traditional, on-the-fly chance for a massage or unique treatment where opportunity presents itself.

the ambiance sets the stageLet’s not minimize in any way the immersive deep relaxation and oneness a destination spa resort offers in their investment to make you a new revitalized person, but like all things in life, those visits (rare delicacies) can’t be a staple of everyday life. Day spas can be as uber-luxurious as a destination spa, but these experiences are often an add-on to your vacation experience to seek to find a glimpse of pampering within the busy-ness of your holiday.

beachside bliss in a thatch hutI’d like you to ponder the opportunistic treats that cross your path and present itself as a surprise moment of relaxation in an out-of-the-ordinary, unexpected place. One of my favorite non-traditional “spa” experiences was while visiting Bare Oaks Naturist Resort in Ontario, Canada. In a screened tent amongst poplars, pines, willows and oaks was the simple and sweet offering of a Swedish massage. The trees gently rustled and, in the middle of the forest, I received a relaxing, rejuvenating Swedish massage with the gentle scent of OFF coils in the tent (took me wonderfully right back to camping as a kid). Change the location to a massage hut on the beach – waves, seagulls, massage. What about an outdoor mineral spring in the snow, or floating in a quiet, almost dark, high-density saltwater pool in a cavern deep in the bedrock? Opportunities for novel spa experiences abound – but only if you’re open to exploring possibilities ...

It is the New Terra Cotta Clothing Optional Resort and Spa in sunny Palm Springs, California.. The original Terra Cotta Inn was a fantastic nude resort. Repeat guests from around the world stayed there. TCI was sold in Nov 2015 and greatly missed. Well, this July 2017, it was revived at a new location in Palm Springs. The site is HotelTerraCotta.com. Guests are super happy. It's perfect for couples and girlfriend getaways. And Tom and Mary Clare from the original Terra Cotta Inn work with us, so it has the same relaxing, fun feel. "

I understand in the litigious US of A, hotels need to prevent folks from throwing themselves out the windows (or else the hotel could be sued?!!). Ok, fine. But for those of us who dislike A/C and only use it when absolutely necessary, can't we still have the option for some FRESH AIR? There ARE ways to allow windows to open up only so much, while at the same time preventing an entire body from throwing itself out the window. Bedskirts. Am I the only one who gets the skeevies when I see hotel beds with bedskirts that hit the floor? I always had images of food crumbs, bugs, and god only knows what...as being hidden behind that bedskirt. I'd much rather a bedskirt that's at least 2" above the (usually carpetted) floor. Towels. Can't we get nicer towels that don't feel like cardboard? Carpetting. Am I the only one who never walks barefoot in a hotel room ...esp when there's carpet? Blech. I'm sure those things are very rarely cleaned. "
