Get back to sexy with these sweet escapes
President Kennedy, President Clinton and former New York Governor Spitzer share a taste for hotels - and bad luck. The Mayflower Hotel in Washington played host to their less-than-discreet dalliances. Not that we condone extracurricular shacking up, but choosing a hotel that exudes discretion should be consideration number one.
Adult Adventure TravelA bed the size of Cuba and gourmet-level room-service tie for second place.
These three hotels don't have an hourly rate but even more important, they're furnished and staffed with sophisticated elegance. Now that we think of it, there are a lot of long-term relationships that would benefit from a decadent fling-style getaway once in a while.
Lafayette House, New York City, New York
Hide yourself and Mr. Smith just around the corner from the Bowery and a block east of Fourth Street. Built in 1845, the Lafayette House is a chic getaway in the heart of the city, decorated pre-war style with velvet drapes, fireplaces, hardwood floors (and a soaking tub big enough for both of you in room 15). Bed down at Lafayette House.
Angler's Boutique Resort, Miami Beach, Florida
Amidst the silconed coastline, Anger's Resort is a subtle (and often over-looked) hideaway that's dedicated to the privacy of its guests. Check in can be done from your room, that's coincidently furnished with a private terrace, garden, sundeck and hot tub.
Draw the slatted wooden shutters to set the mood for a Casablanca kind of evening. A well-designed evening of illicit fun with your lover - the reason most couples (married to each other or not) visit a hotel, right? Bed down at the Angler's Resort.
Soniat Resort, New Orleans, Louisiana
When the southern sun heats up, pour yourself a bourbon, shed the excess clothing and let the antique ceiling fans cool the fire in your belly. Or ignite it - your choice. Soniat takes you back to pre-civil war decadence with glass chandeliers, old-money antiques and beds that sprawl on forever. Walk the tree-lined streets of N'awlins (dropping your R's right along with your propriety) and relax. This is the Big Easy, after all. Bed down at Sonait House.
Star Hotel, San Diego, California
King size bunk beds, a stripper pole in the middle of Sex On Vacationthe room and a glass shower door that clears the steam away at the press of a button. Chains hung from the ceiling in an avante guard sort of way make us wonder if the Star Suite is built for a harem rather than a couple. Oh, and in the interest of safety, the bed frames are covered with shag carpeting (which we hope is cleaned thoroughly after each check-out). Bed down at the Ivy Hotel.
Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur, California
When you're finished the shock and awe tour of Highway 1, park yourself (and Casanova) on your private terrace, complete with hot tub and jaw-dropping view. If you feel the need to leave your room for more public entertainment, choose from 3 pools to lounge beside. We could list all the guided hikes and yoga classes they offer, but that's a different article. Bed down at the Post Ranch Inn.
