Thou shalt recycle or go to hell, warns the Vatican

For many people, a vacation from real life can also lead to a time-out from balancing along the straight and narrow tightrope of morals. Lust, gluttony, avarice, sloth (my personal favorite), anger, envy and pride come out of hiding and run rampant - except for anger hopefully - when you're on vacation!

Saint or Sinner?Saint or Sinner? It's no wonder that coming home feels like penance.

After 1,500 years of guiding us safely along, the Vatican has gone and changed the rules, updated them. Pope Benedict XVI deplores our "decreasing sense of sin," L'Osservatore Romano reported yesterday.

The ridiculously rich, drug pushers, people who don't recycle and scientists who manipulate genetics should consider this a warning. You're headed straight to hell if you don't shape and change your wicked ways.

While the 7 old sins from Dante's Inferno outlined the various ways we could individually make our way to hell, the new batch has a social conscience and focus on how our sins affect the whole world. He didn't spell out the details of each sin but said, "New sins have appeared on the horizon of humanity as a corollary of the unstoppable process of globalization."

2008, 14 deadly sins

Pride
Envy
Gluttony
Lust
Anger
Greed
Sloth
Carrying out experiments on humans
Polluting the environment
Causing social injustice
Causing poverty
Becoming obscenely wealthy
Taking drugs
Genetic modification

Additional 7 deadly sins of genetics spelled out

Aiding and abetting people who use information from their personal genomes for improving their lives

Believing that genes are deterministic
Equating genetic knowledge with eugenics
Making up genetic testing results
Participating in or conducting research on genetics
Running a DNA testing company
Writing a blog about genetics, genomics and DNA

I'm very thankful there's still no mention of sailing on astronomically large cruise ships, drinking until 3 am at the disco or lounging endlessly around the pool. Actually, considering how much I love my vacation, I feel like I just dodged a bullet. So to speak.

What do you think of the additional 7 sins? Guilty of any of them?

this is the absolute most

this is the absolute most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. Im not a catholic, but in all reality, as far as i remember - GOD created the sins, correct? So who are these member's of the vatican to say that we cant use science to try and help people. Stem Cell research is a very helpful, yet controversial subject. Also abortion ... thats a choice. Drug dealing, is also a choice. .. its funny how pedaphillia is mentioned, due to the catholic church and their latest issues. .. this is hysterical.

GOD did not create sins

GOD did not create sins humans screwed up and created sins abortion is murder, drug dealing and taking drugs is destroying the temple of the lord aka your body pedaphilia rofl your right that part is hysterical

The Catholic church along

The Catholic church along with most christians are full of it. Lets just add more things to the list that a person can not do so it looks like we are doing something. Not to mentions that whole fact that one of the richest groups out there is the Catholic church. If it were up to me we would burn down all the catholic churches for lying to the masses. The christian religion was created simply to pray on people that could not handle that there is NOTHING after death. The Christian religion is simply put the largest scam created to steal your money! And now they have found another way to make the rich give them more.

I find it hilarious that you

I find it hilarious that you mixed up the words "pray" and "prey". (Freudian slip, perhaps?) If you're going to launch a hateful and prejudiced attack on a religion, at least proofread your rant.

How convenient, they left

How convenient, they left out child molestation and now that their wealth has been dramatically cut from lawsuits, it's a sin to have wealth. Ok, I get it. God sent the Catholic church sexual predators so that the church would be sued, thereby cutting the Vatican's worth. Consequently, God was telling the church...it's a sin to be wealthy. Nice.

obviously you don't know

obviously you don't know what 'obscenely rich means' it means getting your money off the backs of poor helpless people...

The Catholic church is

The Catholic church is guilty of some of the most horrible crimes in human history. Rather than try to make up for any of them, they continually attempt to re-assume power over the masses. This is the most ridiculous thing I have heard by the most ridiculous church on the planet. Why isn't molesting little boys on the list? Or how about giving money back to ancestors of people killed during the Inquisition? Calling someone a heretic, killing them and then confiscating their fortunes are not sins to the Catholic church, but littering is. You have got to be kidding me.

This is hilarious! So

This is hilarious! So apparently no one but the Catholic church is allowed be obscenely wealthy or cause social injustice?
