LGBT travelers - Oklahoma may not be the friendliest place to visit

Travel should never, ever be more work than your everyday life is. But Sally Kern made it clear last week that Lawton, Oklahoma shouldn't be your top travel pick if your gay, lesbian or bi-sexual. Actually, the Oklahoma State Representative thinks gay people are a bigger threat than terrorists.

Gay Bashing Senator Gets CaughtGay Bashing Senator Gets Caught"I'm not gay bashing," Kern said in the recording, "but according to God's word, that is not the right kind of lifestyle. It has deadly consequences. The homosexual agenda is destroying our country. Studies show that no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than a few decades."

Gee, sounds like gay-bashing to us. You be the judge. Listen to the YouTube video and tell us what you think:

Sally Kern must have known her comments wouldn't be welcomed by everyone present. Or did she honestly expect the entire council shared her stance? There is no response from her audience. In 2004, Kern won her spot with 67.65% of the vote.

Do you think one person can set the tone for an entire area? If you're gay, bisexual or lesbian, would you visit after listening this?

I hope that come election time that Sally finds that SHE is the one that is not welcome in Oklahoma.

Well, we LGBT always stand

Well, we LGBT always stand in one line. "We do support each other to get more rights just as equal as others.." said on the forum of ***bimingle.com*** Anyway, we will get and learn more from it. Hope the world is beautiful for LGBT too.

I had recently reproduced an old anti-Anita Bryant poster from 1978 as a possible T-short to wear as an extra during the filming of the Harvey Milk Biopic. I updated it in "honor" of Sally Kern. As a CURRENT gay Oklahoman,

As a CURRENT gay Oklahoman, I can tell you that contrary to the previous commenter, most Oklahomans DON'T CARE if you're gay or not. I've had no problems with people in Tulsa, where I live, concerning my sexuality. In fact, I have some friends who are rather conservative, and even they haven't brought it up... The only thing they've said is that it's a sad thing for women that I'm gay :). Sally Kern and her hatred are not shared by the majority of Oklahomans. Tulsa has the third-highest gay population per capita in the US, Oklahoma City has a thriving gay community... Sally Kern is NOT Oklahoma. Oklahoma can be a very welcoming place for the gays... If it wasn't, I wouldn't call it home. BRING ON THE GAYS!

I also agree, I live in

I also agree, I live in Oklahoma City and am from Lawton. I live with my partner of 13 years and have no problems in my day to day life. We also have a farm in western OK. and are there often amoung VERY small town folk. No one cares openly who we are or that we are gay.I have many gay friends that I've known for years who are out and live in Lawton. Oklahoma can be a warm, friendly place for gays. This is the work of a sad, hate filled woman and a few band wagon followers.

As a former Oklahoman, I can

As a former Oklahoman, I can tell you without hesitation that Sally Kern's comments are very indicative of how Oklahomans collectively feel about gay folks. In fact, she is not even close to being the most extreme. If you are gay, do not visit, do not move there, do not support the state of Oklahoma in any way with your dollars, (consumer, tax, or otherwise.) You simply are not welcome, and never will be.

This is utter BS, I'm sorry.

This is utter BS, I'm sorry. There are anti-gay people all over the country, and to say something like this is just idiotic. I have many gay friends here in Oklahoma City, and nobody feels scared or alienated by hatemongers, its more something to laugh at (and work to vote them out of office). The more people like you trash the whole state for one lone-bitch's remarks, the more you are making Oklahoma the place you think it is. Grow up. Instead of being bigoted by lumping an entire state into one group, why don't you try and be productive by speaking out about hatred all across the country? Its not an isolated incident, or belief.

Check this out. Well, I am

Check this out. Well, I am GAY. What you going to do about it? By the way, gay people are everywhere. **GET OVER IT**

i think this woman needs a

i think this woman needs a reality check it has shocked me to see how 2 faced she is we are all one and we all have a right to live the way we live i think she needs a good seeing 2 it sickens me to know what she is like i am 25 and times have changed slowly but with people like her she slows it down more for the gay population i would like to know what she would do if she found out a memeber of her family was gay would she still think the same? OPEN YOUR EYES WOMAN WE ARE HERE AND THERE AINT A THING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is she for real?

Is she for real?

The GAYS must be stopped at

The GAYS must be stopped at all costs! What if they do things in private? THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!!! GAYS are trying to have sex with your CHILDREN! Haha....... She is trying to give us the ol okey doke.

I am currently living in Chengdu and was here for the earthquake. Although some of the nearby cities suffered major damage, damage in Chengdu was very limited. I have heard reports of a building that collapsed and a couple buildings suffered minor structural damage but, by in large, tourist trips to the area will not be impeded at all. The day following the quake most stores in the city were closed but everything in Chengdu should return to normal by the weekend at the latest. It is a great city and I would encourage people not to change their travel plans. "
