Level 3 Snow Emergency Wreaks Havoc in Ohio

Louisiana, Kentucky, Ohio and New Jersey all getting a bitter taste of winter today

Baby, it's cold outside. And depending on where you live, it's not only dangerous to venture out of doors, it's illegal. If you're in Ohio or traveling through the state, be aware that Fayette, Hocking, Hamilton and Vinton counties are under a Level 3 snow emergency. All roads are closed to non-emergency personnel and if you're found on one, you could be arrested.

Snow Emergency?Snow Emergency?Yesterday storms in Arkansas dumped about a foot of the white stuff and left more than 40,000 homes and businesses without power. Ohio is under a blizzard warning until 4 pm today with 10-15 inches of snow expected.

Last night at Port Columbus International Airport, a Boeing 737 skidded off the runway. The plane was carrying 130 passengers, but no injuries have been reported. Airports all along the east coast from Florida to the Great Lakes are delaying and canceling flights faster than you can refresh your RSS feeds.

If you're flying, call the airport before you leave home.

More Wacky Weather

Tornados touched down in Florida -at least 10 - killing 2 people. A swarm of winter twisters during February killed at least 57 people in 4 states, the deadliest onslaught in two decades.

Louisiana saw 4 inches of snow on the ground yesterday - enough for the normally snow-free residents to try their luck at making snowmen.

Heavy rainfall in New Jersey is responsible for flooding the Delaware River at Trenton, which is expected to crest on Sunday a full foot above the flood stage.

This classifies as March coming in like a lion to me. As long as Mother Nature keeps her side of the bargain and lets it exit like a lamb, I'm cool with this last fling of winter.

Something tells me it's not going to play out as neatly as I hope.

I love watching people who

I love watching people who don't know how to drive in this weather. If it's snowing out or it's icy, going over 45 mph is suicide. I live in MN and when it snows traffic slows but usually doesn't gridlock unless theres an accident(highways around here were really poorly designed) or its snows bad while people are at work. Otherwise people know to stay home. Is it that difficult for people below the Mason Dixon line to use some good judgment when its snowing? By the way MN is really mad(or at least most that I know of) that we haven't received any of the snow that Wisconsin and Illinois have. 20 inches in Mpls, thats 20 below normal. Congrats to Milwaukee with 100. I'm eternally jealous.

I had just purchased it on board the ship the day prior. But nothing can compare to the loss of a family member. The Captain had everyones attention for the announcement. Captain Draper done a great job informing the passengers of the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rumphrey family."

  • On Tour Bus Crash in Tortola – Caribbean Princess Passenger Dies, Julia Rosien said "Thanks for posting your comment. I was very impressed with the way Captain Draper handled the situation and I told him so. He made it a priority to inform all passengers and eliminated rumor and speculation. It's nice to know the other passengers involved felt the driver saved their lives. The roads in Tortola are terrible and I'm sure much skill is involvd navigating them safely. I hope you enjoyed your cruise, despite this tragedy. Julia"
