Passengers delayed 8 hours en route to London
Diverted due to "illness"What's worse than realizing that the crazy guy being cuffed to a seat had been in control of the aircraft you're flying in? Having to board another plane to get to your destination.
Rumors are swirling that the co-pilot on an Air Canada flight from Toronto to London had a mid-Atlantic breakdown. The plane was diverted to an Irish airport where seated passengers were horrified as he was carried from their plane.
The Globe and Mail reports that the captain took over the flight while "the first officer was crying and screaming as he was cuffed on a free seat." Alone in the cockpit, the captain followed procedure by putting on an oxygen mask and heading for the closest runway.
Once the plane landed, the out of control aviator was brought to a nearby psychiatric facility. Air Canada confirms that their co-pilot checked into the hospital, but is keeping quiet about the nature of his problems.
Seven hours later frightened passengers boarded a London-bound airplane. I'm surprised none of them refused the second trip.
Apparently psychiatric evaluations aren't part of medical evaluations. Wonder who else is flying our planes?
