The whys, hows and wheres of fabulous girlfriend getaways

Girlfriend GetawaysGirlfriend GetawaysMaybe you're turning 40 (or 50 or 60 for that matter). Maybe it's been a while since you laughed at yourself, wore heels, stayed up past midnight, got sweaty at the spa...

Ready to find your girlfriend groove again?

Here's what you won't need:

  • Men
  • Kids
  • BlackBerries, cell phones, pagers, laptops
  • Business suits and stress

Here's what you do need:

  • Book it now: Agree on a date and put it in your planner right away. It's harder to back out of something you've already paid for.
  • Look beyond Vegas: Sure, Sin City is the gal-pal hotspot but look beyond the strip and you might cash in on a hidden adventure.
  • Share the load: Everyone on the trip gets a job - meals, spa, hotel, activities.
  • BYOB: Whether you're hanging out at the pool or gabbing through the wee hours, you'll save a bundle with your own mini-bar - just don't forget the corkscrew.
  • Don't pack it: Plan a shopping trip for your first event. It's a great way to glam up your trip and take home a souvenir with great memories.
  • Share the toiletries: A different person brings shampoo, hairdryer, toothpaste, etc., to economize space on the bathroom counter.
  • Get click happy: Next year you'll be glad you took pictures of all the fun you're having now.
  • Book it forward: If you love this year's choice, book next year's getaway before you check out. You may get preferential treatment which can add up to savings and upgrades.

Love this article. Useful

Love this article. Useful tips! The best place I've gone without the guys? That will have to be shopping in New York or a long weekend of sightseeing in Paris.

What a fabulous article - I

What a fabulous article - I especially loved the tips on what not to bring! I'll be back for more! Keep it coming... Cheers.

I think it's also important

I think it's also important to remember everyone's financial situation. While most of the group can afford the casino trip, it's possible that one of your friends may have a much tighter wallet and the worry and holding back may hurt her trip. Make sure to discuss this beforehand and pick a place everyone can enjoy financially! I've been that friend and it stinks.

  • On Booking CHEAP Airline Travel, Rebecca said "Re: "one way flights booked singly are usually cheaper and have more options than a round-trip package" I have never found this to be true in the States. In fact, just a couple of years ago, I paid for a round trip flight on United even though I knew that the return would never be used because it was so much cheaper than booking a one way flight. It's possible that airlines have begun changing policies recently without my noticing, I haven't been flying nearly as much these days. But I can say that it has been the accepted wisdom for decades that round trip tickets are significantly cheaper than two one way tickets."
