Gogo unveils new In-flight Internet Technology

Whether you're a business traveler criss-crossing the country to attend your next business meeting or jetting away for a girlfriend's getaway at your favorite spa, the power of connectivity while in the air is a powerful alure - especailly if staying connected while traveling is a must.

About 5 years ago, GoGo introduced the first glimpses of in-flight internet connectivity to the domestic American traveler, and evolved their offering into a solid air-to-ground distribution network to open up the domestic american airways for travelers looking to keep connected.

Today, at their webcast in Annaheim, California, GoGo announced their newest in-flight connectivity solution, introducing a superior ground-to-orbit method to transmit the internet signal while in-flight at up to 60 megabits per second (compare your household broadband transmits at 15-25 megabits per second). That’s 20 times the speed growth of their current service level. Combining their already strong air-to-ground service with this satellite network will place them well ahead of any competition.

Unfortunately GoGo's connectivity solution won't launch mid-2014, starting with the domestic Virgin Airlines fleet. But with high demand across the other carriers, this service should grow rapidly as a high-speed in-flight internet and digital entertainment offering.

Now only if they expanded their in-flight wifi service offering to Canada and abroad … maybe that’s the next quest – global in-flight internet connectivity. We can only hope GoGo will continue to go where no wifi has gone before.
