EWGA giving golf courses a fresh lease with female players

The stereotypical golfer is as dated as my boss's wardrobe - thank God for Tiger Woods. And thanks to the Executive Women's Golf Association (EWGA), women golfers have infiltrated the green and rocked the game.

But some courses are stuck in the same time warp as my boss and aren't waiting with open arms.

Chickifying GolfChickifying GolfChickifying golf courses isn't a new thing though - women have been golfing for decades and doing a damn fine job of it. Some golf courses, it seems, need some sensitivity training.

The EWGA is clear on how to make courses more women-friendly. Bathrooms every 6 holes (they also have to be clean), equal service for men and women and no part of the facilities (except the men's locker room) can be off limits to women. Considering how much women spend on golf yearly, this should be a no-brainer.

  • According to a 2006 survey conducted by the PGA, EWGA members spend more than $3278 on golf during the year.
  • Since the EWGA was formed in 1991, more than 85,000 women have joined and spend collectively $512, 000 in golf-related spending annually.
  • Sounds like a lucrative market to me, but I'm just a girl and what do I really know about business?

Love golf? What impresses (or ticks you off) about the game?

I set up Hands Up Holidays with the passion to create amazing vacations where people got to learn about other cultures, explore a destination, and interact meaningfully with the locals, through the medium of carefully consulted volunteer projects. Families do indeed get a lot out of our trips, as do couples, single travellers, and seniors. Yours in Adventures That Count Chris "

Right now the agencies are still dealing with a lot of paperwork to get into Myanmar. However, once they are in, they need names and applications on file so they can call on you when they are ready to go. If your vacation dates are more structured, why don't you contact an agency which runs volunteer programs all the time, you'll be able to make a difference somewhere without driving your boss nuts waiting to find out when you're going. Good luck!"
