Voted #1 spa in Canada by Spa Finder, and from theSt. Anne's Haldimand HillsSt. Anne's Haldimand Hills

minute I entered the courtyard, I knew I was on sacred ground:

  • Cell phones are not permitted in public areas
  • No televisions, but wireless Internet access is grudgingly provided
  • Most guests wander the resort - both inside and out - in robes
  • Every corner and nook is another opportunity to snuggle in an over-sized chair
  • Soft music, soothing tea and encouraging smiles are served in abundance
  • No VIP policy to ensure all guests receive equal pampering
  • No tipping permitted, so no need to keep money in your robe

My partner and I shed our clothes within minutes of arrival and donned those over-sized robes for a weekend of soaking in the hot tub, multiple spa appointments and highly encouraged canoodling by the fireplace. We even took our meals and some outdoor relaxing in our robes - which made us feel a little like inmates at a sanatorium.

Moor Mud Bath

Ste. Anne's is the only spa in Canada that offers a full Moor Mud Bath - used to detoxify, prevent illness, balance hormones and reduce inflammation.

It begins with a dry brushing, followed by a steam shower to open pores. You're then lowered into a tub filled with golden moor mud and pine oil. Afterwards, hydro-massage jets wheedle any remaining stress from your joints and muscles.

The mud bath is a warming treatment, so stay out of the hot tub and sauna beforehand. My partner ignored my advice and fainted while getting out of the tub - something he'll never live down.

The treatment is recommended for more than 60 different ailments including fibromyalgia, rheumatism, psoriasis and arthritis, but avoid it if you have high blood pressure, heart disease or diabetes.

Beyond the main inn, the spa village is a unique collection of guest homes, some a century old and others newly built. Choose your lodging based on the number of people you're traveling with, whether you need kitchen facilities and how much access you want to the main inn.

The spa isn't licensed but feel free to bring your own alcohol and the dining room staff will cork it for you at no charge.

I had just purchased it on board the ship the day prior. But nothing can compare to the loss of a family member. The Captain had everyones attention for the announcement. Captain Draper done a great job informing the passengers of the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rumphrey family."

My heart was so heavy over the thought of his dear parents losing their son on what was to be a very happy time. My heart is with his family and I will pray for them."

  • On Tour Bus Crash in Tortola – Caribbean Princess Passenger Dies, Julia Rosien said "Thanks for posting your comment. I was very impressed with the way Captain Draper handled the situation and I told him so. He made it a priority to inform all passengers and eliminated rumor and speculation. It's nice to know the other passengers involved felt the driver saved their lives. The roads in Tortola are terrible and I'm sure much skill is involvd navigating them safely. I hope you enjoyed your cruise, despite this tragedy. Julia"

  • On Tour Bus Crash in Tortola – Caribbean Princess Passenger Dies, Anonymous said "I just returned from this tragic Caribbean Princess cruise. Although I was not a part of this particular excursion, it was both saddening and shocking for everyone on the ship when Capt. Draper made the announcements. The following day, we spoke to one of the excursion bus passengers who felt the bus driver did everything in his power to slow the bus down and they felt the bus driver had saved all of their lives. According to my fellow passenger, the fatality was caused by the young man being thrown through the front windshield. Of note, it was rumored told during the cruise that a witness saw the brakes being worked prior to the excursion."
