Feeling inspired by Sarah Jessica Parker's poufy skirts? Be ready for packed hotels - New York travel is hot this year. And by the time Sex and the City is released in North America, European glamour queens will already be all over New York. The London premiere (complete with Carrie) happened Monday night, and the Berlin opening is tomorrow.
George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company (they run nycvisit.com) is excited about the movie's global scope: "It shows the texture, the glamour, the excitement, the fun, the nightspots and the shopping. So we're looking forward to the film and being able to remind everybody what an incredible place New York City is to live and of course to visit."
Until the movie comes out, I'm planning my NYC visit without the help of my favorite foursome. New York tourism is prepared for the flood of smart, sexy visitors the movie is bringing in. They're offering a guide to the hottest clubs, and they've dragged in scores of celebs to spread their secrets to doing New York like a pro.
The best part of their publicity stunt is that the celebs they've pulled in come from worlds beyond the silver screen. Ivanka Trump tells you how to do the city like a hot business woman, while the city's fashion elite give you the inside scoop on shopping the city like a pro. Unfortunately, the amount of walking involved means you might have to spend a little time in flats.
According to Julianne Moore, your feet aren't the only ones that'll get tired when you try to hit the pavement like a New Yorker. Her top tip for travelers is that "even if your kids say they want to walk, bring the stroller." Sounds like she's been stuck cutting her shopping short more than once.
