Canadian Train Passenger Death - Update

Quarantined train to be rolling soon

Earlier today we reported on a cross-country train being quarantined in Timmins. A woman died while on route from Vancouver to Toronto this morning and a number of other passengers fell ill.

Train QuarantinedTrain QuarantinedIt seems the train will be on its way again soon though. According to CNN.com:

"Dr. David Williams, Ontario's top medical officer, said the woman who died did not have an infectious disease, nor did another woman who was airlifted to Timmins and District Hospital in Timmins, Ontario."

All trains through Timmins were stopped today while officials struggled to find out what caused the woman's death and if it was infectious. The number of helicopters, police officers and special gear made some people think it was infectious outbreak. But apparently the illnesses and deaths were not related.

"It happened to be a confluence of three (events) at the same time," Williams told Reuters.

Lab tests are being conducted in Sudbury, Ontario to determine the exact cause of the illness and passengers who were feeling ill have been separated into two rail cars.

It looks like the train will be on its way again soon, but if you have family or friends aboard, VIA Rail issued a telephone number for anyone seeking information about the passengers: 877-747-0707.
