Lesbian Adventure Travel

So many trips, so little time!

Isn't it about time you gave yourself permission to have the kind of vacation you really want?

gay travel companies who get it!Let's face it, if you're traveling with a same sex partner, a Disney cruise jammed with kids isn't going to impress. And if you're a spa-worshiping gay man, one that caters to husband-hunting debutantes is going to miss the mark.

At GoGirlfriend, we're eager to share lesbian travel companies who get it. If you're looking for gay and/or lesbian adventure travel - with a partner or solo - have a look at some of the companies we've found:

  • Olivia: The energy behind Olivia's pink-powered freedom is simple - joyful freedom to travel openly with your same sex partner. Melissa Etheridge, the Indigo Girls and Whoopi Goldberg have all traveled with Olivia.
  • Pied Piper Travel: A gay group tour operator, Pied Piper Travel specializes in organizing wholly gay cruises and gay groups on gay-friendly cruise ships.
  • "R" Family Vacations: "R" Family (owned by Rosie O'Donnell) caters to both the gay and lesbian community and abides by the philosophy that everyone is welcome.
  • He Travel: He Travel caters to the LGBT traveler easily customizing adventure, culture, leisure or luxury tours. Come as a group, make new friends and enjoy being part of the big gay world.
  • Wild Women Expeditions: After 27 years of delivering Wild Women Expeditions, community, environment and friendship are hallmarks to opening up the world of travel for women.
  • New Zealand Awaits: You had us at New Zealand! With New Zealand rated as a top LGBTQ-friendly travel destination, New Zealand Awaits offers small group and guided LGBTQ tours to some of the most stunning landscapes in a safe and welcoming environment.
  • GayTravel.com: Travel guides with a gay perspective deliver diverse, inclusive and safe vacations for the LGBTQ community. Over 20 years experience in gay-friendly tours, cruises and destinations.
  • Purple Roofs: with thousands of gay and lesbian owned and friendly accommodations around the world - bed and breakfasts, vacation rentals, hotels, guest houses, as well as hundreds of gay and lesbian friendly travel agents and tour operators, PurpleRoofs is a staple for that weekend getaway or simply exploring.
  • International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association: aleading global travel network dedicated to connecting and educating LGBT travelers and the businesses that welcome and support them along the way.

Safety and acceptance of the LGBTQ lifestyle is important when researching destinations and eliminating the stress of dangerous and uncomfortable situations. Two resources that help you understand where homosexiuality is acceptable, understanding where it may be unsafe to travel, and choosing destinations where same-sex behaviours are understood and welcomed:

If you're considering New Zealand, then New Zealand Awaits is lesbian owned and operated (yes I'm the founder, owner, and guide). We run active and not so active tours for lesbians, as well as some LGBTQ mixed trips. We create itineraries for travellers wanting to self drive, and we have private guides. Come see us!

Thanks for the great article!! If you're travelling to Europe check the ELLA International Lesbian Festival (ellafestival.com) and ELLA Travel (ella-travel.com), organising lesbian events and trips!

Hi, I found your website via a google search for Lesbian Travelers. Since you play a vital role in our community, I just wanted to swing by to let you know about my new travel book for women, Simple Rules for...The Road Warrior Princess. Happy Travels! Best regards, Debbie A

Adventure? These look pretty tame to me: Rosie's adventure cruise is of New England and Canada...come on people, lets be a little more H-Core before calling it adventure. If they do offer real adventure travel, then tell us about it!!!

Check out Adventures in Good Company, which offers REAL adventure travel for women of all ages (e.g. trekking in Bhutan, climbing Kilimanjaro). While not specifically for lesbians, it is a lesbian friendly company where everyone can be free to be who they are. It is probably not the best place to find a partner, but it is a place where you can bring your partner and be comfortable.
