When you've got a yen for zen

Unclench your shoulders and unknit that brow, Beauty, and get yourself to a health spa - one that specializes in untangling knots.

Spa GirlfriendsWhether it's polishing up your fugly feet or sloughing off stress, health and wellness spas (and medical spas) cater to beautifying you from the inside out. These spa treatments from across North America offer that something extra. Feel free to use our list to see how your favorite local spa measures up. You might just discover a new spa favorite.

GoGirlfriend's top 5 health spa treatments

Specialty Massage - Watsu Therapy

Watsu Therapy Specialty body treatments can range from a simple hot stone massage to the rare (and hard to find) watsu therapy. I enjoyed a watsu massage at the Amelia Island Plantation in Florida and the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Spa in Arizona. The massage takes place in the pool with the therapist cradling you in her arms while she dances around in the water, moving you gently to achieve a gentle massage. Nurturing, healing and calming.

Body Detox - Cedar Enzyme Bath

The Cedar Enzyme Bath at Osmosis Day Spa in California is similar to a mud bath - and completely different. My partner and I were led to a large tub filled with composting cedar chips. After being completely covered, we were left to bake for 20 minutes while we watched birds playing in the garden. The treatment was followed by a shower, nap and hour-long massage. Yes, I was incapable of rational thought afterward.

Couples Treatment - Japanese Ofuro Deluxe

Couples treatments can be the perfect way to enjoy theCouple Time at the Spa spa with your partner - especially if he's a spa virgin. The Japanese Ofuro Deluxe at the Millcroft Inn and Spa in Ontario, Canada combines a body polish, soak (in a tub built for two) and a full body massage. I recommend following this treatment with room service and a do not disturb sign.

Body Treatment - Head to Toe Facial

Why choose between a facial or massage when you can have both? The Waldorf Cleanse at the Waldorf Astoria Chicago begins with a foot rub, rain-shower-rinse, seaweed gel massage and body wrap (buh-bye cellulite) and travels up the body to finish with a moisturizing elixir; scalp, facial and eye treatment.

Hand and Foot Treatment - Good Luck Ritual

the Spa at the Encore, Las VegasI travel to Las Vegas twice a year, for tradeshows. The Good Luck Ritual at Encore Wynn Las Vegas focuses on five Chinese elements to promote happiness, luck and prosperity. Start down the path to relaxation with a peppermint foot soak, fusion massage, hand therapy and find yourself completely noodle-fied with the botanical scalp treatment. Forget the slots and find your happy ending right here.

Where do you follow your bliss when it comes to a health spa? Got a hidden gem to share with your GoGirlfriends? We'd love to hear about it in the comments below, on Twitter or Facebook.
