Girlfriend mini getaway on a budget
Kids, jobs, commitments...trying to coordinate a girls getaway that meets the schedules and budgets of five busy moms from five different cities is tough. Thankfully, my dearest friends and I discovered we didn't have to break the bank to pack in a fast, fun-filled, wine-drenched weekend.
girlfriends in Niagara on the lakeWe spent two nights at a charming little
house in Niagara-on-the-Lake called The
Artist's Cottage. It was simple and roomy enough for the five of us
(despite a few skirmishes for the bathroom). In reality, it's a quaint little
house with just the basics, not the best choice if you want high-end, upscale
accommodations. It was perfect for our low-key approach and tight budget.
A short stroll to the main drag our
first evening found us down at The Irish
Harp enjoying delicious pub fare, singing
touring Niagara wine countryalong with lively music from the
celtic band and more than our share of adult beverages.
A few months earlier, I had discovered Crush On Niagara Wine Tours while doing
some online research on Niagara Region tours. After a phone call with owner Andrew
Brooks, I knew we were going to have an amazing Saturday in wine country.
Andrew did a Great food, wine and friends!fabulous job figuring us out (five nutty moms and wine tour
novices), what we were looking for (a variety of vineyards to tickle our fancy)
and our budget (not huge). In no time, he had prepared a full day's itinerary
of five vineyards, from big to small, with a fabulous personalized lunch midday
at the Jackson Triggs Estate. And he kept it moving along with our entertaining
and knowledgeable driver, Bob, who took great care of us from door to door.
girlfriends getawayAfter a thoroughly enjoyable wine
adventure, we were delivered back to our little cottage where we spent that
second night in, preparing our own food and cracking open a few of those
bottles purchased during the day. It was exactly the kind of quick getaway
these busy ladies needed.
