St. Augustine, Florida, has the secret to eternal youth?
My bathroom counter has become an altar to the Julia Rosiengoddess of youth. And in all honesty, the more crows that flock to the corners of my eyes, the more penance I'm willing to pay to get on that damn goddess's good side.
But I'm tired of living like a refugee of youth - I want back in.
I need a Fountain of Youth.
In St. Augustine, past the Old Jail and the abandoned museum, a series of 3 arches lead to a sort of watering hole or natural spring. The arches are rusty (and make me question the quality of this water) and spray-painted gold statues surround it.
Welcome to the Fountain of Youth, St. Augustine, Florida.
The Fountain of Youth is dedicated to Ponce de Leon's discovery of North America in 1513 (just a few years after the British and Italians, but what's a few years between friends?).
I'm tempted. A sip and a prayer couldn't hurt - and it's cheaper than my current repertoire of elixirs.
