New festival pulls in big names in music

What do you get when you combine the hottest concert promoters in the world with a bunch of granola chewing tree-huggers? It ain't your mother's Woodstock, that's for sure.

This July, in Rothbury, Michigan, entertainment and environmental responsibility will join forces in a concert busting at the seams with big names. Dave Matthews, John Mayer and Phil Lesh are just a few of the 70 bands that will rock out for Mother Earth.

Madison House, in conjunction with AEG Live announced today the 4-day "sustainable festival celebrating music, art and action" in early July. The Double JJ Resort expects to welcome more than 50,000 fans.

"This is not a hard rock show or a metal festival," said Jeremy Stein, an owner and partner in Madison House. "There will be music for everyone. We will have a wide enough lineup that it will allow a diverse group of folks to find something they like."

If you're thinking of attending, dig deep. A ticket will cost you $244.75, but you get camping and all the entertainment and environmental programming for the whole weekend. Kids under 12 get in half price. If you're prefer a package that includes a hotel room and/or showers you'll pay a lot more.

And while you'll be able to buy food onsite, you can bring your own as well.

Other music festivals in the US draw just as many people, but this is the first to combine a top-rated resort golf course, indoor waterpark, several hundred modern accommodations and an adult dude ranch. The festival is leasing the entire resort for the four-day event.

I personally can't think of a more fun way to reduce my carbon footprint. It sure beats chewing granola...
