South Pasadena - just the start of a world cuss-free zone

Fed up with how much friggin' cussing there is in the world today? Have no fear. South Pasadena, a small community on the edge of Los Angeles, has become a cuss free zone. Snoop Dog wanna-be's can stay home, thank you very much.

What the &#$*?

No Cussing AllowedNo Cussing AllowedRest assured, if you do visit and cuss, you won't be slapped in hand cuffs or thrown in the slammer for your wicked ways. But you will be shamed for your inappropriate comments by residents known for their moral, upstanding reputation.

McKay Hatch, a 14-year-old fed up with his friends' swearing is the founder of South Pasadena's High School "No Cussing Club." He admits to once indulging in more colorful language (and possibly even flipping the bird) once or twice in his life. But no more - he's transformed himself. And so can you.

"My mom and dad always taught me good morals, good values, and not cussing was one of them," said Hatch in an Associated Press interview. "I finally told my friends, `I don't cuss.' And I said, `If you want to hang out with me, you don't cuss.'"

Hatch's 50-member club developed a Website and now boast a membership of 10,000 members and chapters in several states and countries. Hatch considers getting his home to agree to a cuss-free zone his greatest achievement.

At 14, that's a hell of an achievement, McKay. Whoops. A heck of an achievement.

We're kidding, of course, and think McKay is one damn cool kid. Anyone who can stand up to their friends and change an entire city has got it going on.

Fantastic idea ... just wish

Fantastic idea ... just wish someone would have thought of this long ago. It is amazing to me that it takes a 14 year old boy to get this kind of results. I am behind you all the way and I am going to show this information to my kids (14 & 15) and I know they too will join you! Keep up the GREAT work!

I think this is WONDERFUL!

I think this is WONDERFUL! Hope more cities adopt the same. I am not only offend whenI hear filthy language by teens especally, but feel sad they have resulted to the usuage. Their lives must be horrible at home and away. God Bless the spirit of this young man. May is goodness spread.

I admire this young man

I admire this young man immensely and hope this starts a return to common courtesy and respect for everyone. Just because "everyone does it" doesn't make it right. There are a lot of us who find this language rude, crude, and vulgar. I also have a problem with the reporters who put expletives (no matter how they are covered up and abreviated, etc) in the story about this young man. That shows a lot of disrespect and sarcasm about this subject. I was told growing up that bad language was a sign of ignorance. The person cursing did not have a vocabulary large enough to express himself without vulgar words. Although cursing has become common place in our society, it still shows a lack of education and respect for society
