There are plenty of ways to absorb the colorful history of St. Kitts
You'll come to St. Kitts for the beaches, the food, the eco-adventures... but you'll quickly learn that touring the island is like a promenade through time. Unless you're a museum junkie, get outside and see what history left behind.
St. Kitts Scenic Railway
St. KittsOnce you get past the kitschy theme song sung by "St. Kitts Railway Choir," sit back and relax on the double-decker train as it takes you past Brimstone Hill Fortress, sugar plantations, the rainforest and more than one beach. This ain't Scotland, girlfriend.
If you're on a time-crunch, bring your luggage along (you can store it under your seat). Tickets are available at hotels, cruise ship tour operators, the tourist office and the station. Trains depart at 9:30am, 1pm or 1:30pm during high season.
Brimstone Hill National Park
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Brimstone Hill (the Gibraltar of the Caribbean) was built in 1690, by the British and partially destroyed by a hurricane in 1834.
St. Kitts The history is interesting, the crumbling walls attention-grabbing, but the view from the hill steals the whole show.
Leave yourself time to stroll the trails surrounding the wall - you may see a vervet monkey, transported here by the British and now greater in numbers than island residents.

Hi there-just thought id leave a message to say how fantastic a place this is to visit. We visited last year and had a memorable time. We were very lucky to be staying in this elegant resort. in St. Kitts, where we were looked after tremendously. The highlights of our two week trip were probably the Brimstone Hill Fortress, Romney Manor and strolling around Basseterre at night-lovely.
