Family vacations with your same-sex partner

Family travel shouldn't be about hiding the real you. But it can be hard to explain to insensitive staff why Traveling with KidsTraveling with Kidsthe kids call both of you Mommy. Check out our list of lesbian-friendly places to take your next trip from frustrating to fabulous.

Disney World, Orlando

We know. Disney isn't exactly new for family travel. But what you may not realize is that they scored a perfect 100 in the 2008 Buying for Equality Guide. So take to the theme park and your kids will love you forever. Other big names that ranked well are Busch Gardens, SeaWorld, and Sesame Place.

Pre-kids the thought might have made you shudder, but sometimes sanity can come in the form of a familiar chain restaurant. Thankfully most chains welcome children and give employees diversity training. Our top picks in Orlando are Little Italy, T.G.I. Friday's, Applebee's, Olive Garden and Red Lobster.

Fort Worth, Texas

Texas isn't the conservative hold-out some of its offspring lead you to believe. Fort Worth's Southwest charm welcomes and embraces its active gay community. Check out the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, and you'll likely see other non-traditional families. The site has a cult following in the lesbian community.

Saddle up!  Fort Worth history is all about cowboys. Spend the morning in a Log Cabin Village, grab some barbecue for lunch, then take in a rodeo at the Cowtown Coliseum.

Whistler, British Columbia

The little ski bunnies in your house will love Whistler Blackcomb, the future home of the 2010 Olympics. If your kids tire of world-class skiing and snowboarding, Whistler also offers snowmobiling, tubing, dogsleds and horse-drawn carriages. And fully supervised lessons mean that you could save the carriage ride for just you and your partner.

For a truly alpine après-ski experience, dine at the Bavaria Restaurant. They have authentic Austrian fare for kids and adults alike.
