Budget Travel explores the most beautiful gardens around the world

There are a few things we miss from childhood: story time, crustless PB&J sandwiches, lying in the garden pulling petals off the daisies...he loves me, he loves me not, he loves me...

York Gate Garden - Leeds, England

Andy Sturgeon, award winning garden designer, says, "It's a gem." You'll find a series of outdoor rooms composed of formal and informal designs, an Italianate summer house and a cornucopia of topiaries. Chanticleer - Wayne, PA

Julie Moir Messervy, garden designer says, "I love how quirky Chanticleer is." You'll find more than 30 acres of flowers (tens of thousands) and woodlands with fountains filled with faces looking up through the water. Visit Chanticleer, a pleasure garden, online for hours of operation and admission fees.

Queen Califia's Magical Circle, Kit Carson Park - Escondido, CA

Designed by French artist, Niki de Saint-Phalle, it depicts Queen Califia (mythical warrior Queen California was named for) standing atop a 13 ft, 5-legged eagle. Glass totem poles dot this sculpture garden, clearly intended for the young at heart. Visit Queen Califaia's Magical Garden online for hours of operation and admission fees.

I love the idea of planning

I love the idea of planning my travel around gardens. My mother planned hers around graveyards - which was a little weird. I don't think I'll ever get tired of strolling through gardens...not sure if my kids would agree though.LOL

Interesting post. I love visiting gardens on vacation. It's a great thing to do with kids. We lived in France when my kids were little and we did most all of our touring outside. Maybe someday I'll get to move back and see what the inside of Versailles looks like!
