Best of Both Adventures for Women - Part 2

When Dez and I chatted last week, she was eager toDez BarteltDez Bartelt talk about her love of travel. If you've never taken an adventure tour before (and even if you have) Dez is full of information. Here's what she had to say about the places Best of Both Adventures travels to:

GG: You focus on only 3 destinations: Patagonia, Panama and Puerto Rico. How did you choose these spots?

Dez Bartelt: I know Patagonia as if it were my back yard. I have been climbing there for over 25 years. I have a home and office in Bariloche. Patagonia is one of the most amazing places in the world and a place I wanted to share with other people.

PanamaPanamaPanama is another amazing country. My husband and I have been traveling there to surf for many years. I decided to add this to my adventure trips so people can see what a wonderful place it is. We also have an office and home in Boca's Del Toro.

As for Puerto Rico, it's one of the best surf destinations in the world. I have owned Rincon Surf School in Rincon for over 8 years. It only made sense to add this to our list for Surf and Yoga trips.

But don't forget Kenya! We now offer our walking safaris in Kenya, Africa. Life is too short not to go to Africa. As our world changes we lose a little of it every day, and Africa is something we must enjoy before it's too late.

GG: What's your favorite and why?

DB: I would have to say it's between Patagonia and KenyaKenyaKenya. Patagonia feels like home, and every time I return, I feel so loved by nature and the people. It wraps its arms around me and welcomes me back.

When I bring other women to Patagonia they all say the same thing. "Wow, this is amazing I know why you love it!"

Kenya is also very special. The culture, the people and the wildlife. When you go there you will always have it in your heart. It will stay with you forever.

GG: Do you go on all the trips? And if not, how do you decide which ones to go on?

DB: I get this question a lot, and I do as many as I can. I work my schedule around them so that I can be on all or part of the trips.

I am on all of the Patagonia trips because I'm the head guide. I then travel to Panama, and guide as many as I can. For the Puerto Rico trips, I make as many appearances as I can, mostly in late April.

As for Kenya, I guide the climbing of Mount Kenya, and I am on the July and August trips. I work with amazing women that can do as well if not better than I. We have worked together for years, and know that anyone that travels with Best of Both Adventures will love them as much as I do.
