Happy 400th Quebec - it's going to be a hell of a party!

Quebec City kicked off its year-long birthday party in January and the calendar is brimming with fun things to do, cool exhibits and spectacular performances. We adore Quebec City and its joi de vivre, but a visit this Quebec CityQuebec Cityyear will convince you that getting old isn't so bad after all.

Look at all the ways you can celebrate in Quebec this year:

  1. February 14 - April 19, 2009: Musee de la Civilsation is featuring an exhibit named "Urbanopolis." Models, roundtable discussions, film screenings and performance art will give visitors a glimpse of Quebec City 400 years from now.

  2. March 15, 2008: Quebec Symphony Orchestra performs Mahler's, "Symphony of a Thousand" with more than 800 singers and 200 musicians.

  3. June 10 - September 28, 2008: The 3,660 sq ft, Ephemeral Gardens will be open for public viewing. They were designed by 11 garden designers from around the world.

  4. June 20 - July 29, 2008: Director Robert Lepage's, "Image Mill" will debut at Espace 400e, a new waterfront performance pavilion. The city's history will be broadcast on grain elevators along the St. Lawrence River.

  5. July 3 - 5, 2008: The City Officially turns the big 4-0-0 on the 3rd and the Plains of Abraham, a public park within the old city, will be the place to enjoy a torch-lit parade and spectacular fireworks display.

  6. August 15, 2008: Party all night long during the Walking Road Party. Enjoy outdoor movies and a floating dance floor that stretches across the river.

  7. October 19, 2009: Cirque de Soleil debuts a very hush-hush, specially commissioned show to celebrate the city's anniversary.
