Matt Cawby Plane Spotter Update
Remember the story of the pilot that swooped a Seattle-area airfield without permission?
Ian Wilkinson, the Cathay Pacific Airways pilot, who was fired last week after hot-dogging a 777-300ER passenger jet, supposedly at his boss's request?
We blogged about it here on GoGirlfriend when a YouTube video hit the airwaves. The incident had been hushed up before Matt's video became public.
Poor Ian didn't have a prayer once bloggers got a hold of him.
Ready for your flight?According to the Herald, Capt. Ian Wilkinson flew as low as 28 ft off the ground. He is appealing his firing, as is co-pilot, Ray Middleton, who was also suspended.
News reports are still saying the chairman, who was onboard during the flyby, was shocked. Read: we're very embarrassed that someone caught us and now Ian gets to be the fall guy.
The buzz on the blogosphere is that a tidy buy-off should make the whole thing go away. If a 50-year-old pilot is still pulling stunts like this, it might be a good thing to wrap up the career with a nice package.
And we can all thank be thankful Ian didn't let his judgment lapse in a "really" dangerous situation - one where the passengers weren't a bunch of overgrown kids gunning for a thrill.
Way to go Matt for being in the right place at the right time!
Do you think the pilot and copilot should be fired?
