At Casa Diablo, you get meat on the pole, not your plate

Glam to GoIn this industry we hear a lot of whacked out stories. Color us jaded, but it takes more to shock us than it used to. Johnny Diablo's story made Friday pretty fun for us here at GG. We couldn't have made this one up if we'd tried.

Diablo, a vegan for 23 years recently opened up the world's first ever vegan strip club in Portland. We're not quite sure if he's got a business plan or is just hoping the idea is so "out there" that people will come just to see for themselves.

He says his strippers support his tree-hugging (and apparently pole-hugging) ways. The dancers can't wear leather, fur, snakeskin and smoking is strictly forbidden. We're assuming plastic and sequins are di rigueur though.

In the city with the largest concentration of strip clubs in the U.S., reactions are mixed. Hard core vegans (pardon the pun) can't help but be a little excited, but worried about the meat metaphors. Kind of like when Eva Mendes shucked her clothes for PETA and then landed herself in rehab.

I love vegan food, and I'll drive a long way to try out a great restaurant. But something tells me I'd have to be very, very hungry to be cool about a vegan's panties landing in my mexican tortilla soup...
