Or, travel dreaming on someone else's dime

Travel Dreaming?Travel Dreaming?It's Thursday and I'm tempted to exchange my laptop for a boarding pass to anywhere. Anywhere that outlaws cubicles, that is.

Considering my boss is in a tizzy of a mood, I'm doubting he'll sign off on it if it doesn't align with his deadline obsessions (he really should consider therapy).

So to distract myself from the fact that I'm not traveling anywhere today, I'm playing the adult fantasy travel game.

If I could be anywhere right now, I'd be:

  • Rome: First of all because, well, it's Rome. Second, have you ever heard a more beautiful language than Italian? I can't speak or understand it, but a big beefy Italian whispering sweet Italian nothings in my ear while plying me with Chianti, pasta, gelato...I did say this was an *adult* travel fantasy.
  • Anywhere north of the 45th parallel after a snowfall at midnight: I get so few opportunities to indulge in my secret passion (winter hiking) by the light of a full moon. Add in some of my father-in-law's home-made schnapps and I've found all I need in life to be happy - except for maybe that Italian guy.
  • India: Because suddenly my feet are freezing and my waistline is expanding from all the Chianti, pasta and gelato. I can't think of a better place in the world to reconnect with- and downsize - myself.
  • Barbados: If you have to ask why, you need to go there. Now. Don't bother to turn off your computer. Just go. You can thank me later.
