A whirlwind of girls who just wanna have fun

By Casey Wohl

My autumn is just not complete without a fantastic Key WestKey WestGirls Getaway, and Key West was my destination of choice this year. My cousins Kelly and Nikki joined me on a 7-hour road trip to the Southernmost Point of the U.S. Wanting to make the most of the trip, we covered a lot of ground.

We arrived at the Casa Marina Resort & Beach Club. They're almost done with their remodeling, which looks great already, and their pool and beach areas are Capt. Tony and the girlsCapt. Tony and the girlssome of the best on the island.

Our dining choices included:

  • Blue Heaven Restaurant, a must-visit.
  • La Trattoria, fine Italian dining Key West style with a great view of all the happenings on Duval Street.
  • Conch Republic Seafood Company, a great waterside hangout in the historic Seaport area.
  • Turtle Kraals Restaurant and Bar, a former turtle cannery facility turned waterside restaurant where they hold Turtle Races every Monday and Friday.
  • Our nightlife crawl included:

  • Garden of Eden, a clothing optional bar, which everyone should at least visit (it makes great stories for your friends back home).
  • Capt. Tony's Saloon, where Hemingway used to hang out. We chatted with the 91-year-old Capt. Tony himself (he's quite the ladies man, so beware).
  • Hogs Breath Saloon where "Hog's breath is better than no breath at all."
  • Sloppy Joe's Bar, which has been a Key West tradition since 1933.
  • During our days, we laid out at the Casa Marina's pool, visited The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, the Harry S Truman Little White House Museum, the Audubon House and Tropical Garden, and rode the Key West Trolley. Of course, we also found time shopping and watching the sunset from our hotel - beautiful.

It was a fabulous trip filed with memories to last a lifetime!
