Coordinating a girlfriend getaway is an adventure in itself

Teresa Thompson, Hot Metal Mama, gets stuff done. She's the kind of person you want around when you have deadlines to meet or a party to plan. But she's also the person you want planning your getaway Peruvian AdventurePeruvian Adventureadventure.

When Teresa started planning a hiking adventure in Peru with her friends, she took it one step at a time. If you missed our first post, read how she transformed her idea into a plan.

If you're considering a getaway with your gal-pals, it's not as challenging as you might imagine.

GoGirlfriend:  How long did it take you to plan the trip? How long were you gone?

Teresa Thompson: The lead time was roughly 8 months. The most extensive planning took about 2 solid months of researching at night online. The 8 months allowed for us to have a long enough lead time to coordinate our schedules and book the hiking company.

The trip itself was 14 days - 2 full days of travel time to and from Peru. The hike was sandwiched in the middle and was 4 days, 3 nights. We spent the first 2 Peruvian AdventurePeruvian Adventuredays in Peru in Cusco, acclimatizing to the altitude (10,700 feet above sea level). We also spent 2 days in Aguas Caliente after the hike and then 2 days in Cusco before flying home.

GG: Can you walk us through some of the challenges you faced getting everything coordinated between 3 friends?

TT: I think I saved myself a lot of grief by really thinking hard about which friends to invite. I was the only common denominator among all of us so I chose friends who had personalities that I thought would mesh well- and have a healthy sense of adventure. Coordinating our schedules took about a week and several emails.

I started out by giving everyone 3 possible travel Peruvian AdventurePeruvian Adventurewindows and let them narrow down the choices. Once the dates we set, I booked my flight and forwarded it to everyone else to coordinate with it. My friend Betsy and I hooked up in the Miami airport and we met Lisa and Kris at the hotel in Cusco.

Thinking about your own girlfriend adventure getaway? Send us your questions and Teresa will answer them in a future post.
