Barrier Island, offshore of Pinellas County mainland

Check your watch. Is it time for a vacation yet? St. Pete Beach is a 7 mile stretch of clear waters, gentle winds and white sands. The serenity stops there though.

St. Pete BeachSt. Pete BeachIt's also filled with great stores, live entertainment, ice cream parlors and gift shops. Close to everything, the tranquil atmosphere of St. Pete can make it feel miles away from the ordinary. But, it's usually packed (including offseason), so expect large crowds, lots of noise and loads of fun.

Accommodations: There's no shortage of places to stay in St. Pete, which is our politically correct way of saying the coast is littered with hotels, luxurious resorts and smaller motels. If you're toting kids, you'll find more room for spreading out in the many condos or houses for rent. There's a room to fit every budget.

St. Pete Beach Local Activities: If you can imagine it, St. Pete offers it. From swimming, snorkeling and parasailing, to jet skiing, sailing and scuba diving. Water rentals can be arranged through your hotel. Watch out for sting rays!

St. Pete Beach Area Attractions: You must visit the famous Don CeSar Beach Resort. Built in 1928, the CeSar has transformed itself from a resort, to a hospital, into a hurricane shelter, a veteran's administration building, and finally back into a hotel. Take a cruise to nearby Shell Key or Caladesi Island State Park. Busch Gardens in Tampa is a short 45 minutes away.

St. Pete Beach Area Events:

  • Tampa Bay Rays Baseball (spring/summer): Get your glove, peanuts and crackerjacks and take the family out to the ballgame.
  • Caribbean Carnival (June): Cultural extravaganza full of costumes, dancing, music and food.
  • Annual Sand Sculpture Contest (September/October): St. Pete Pier holds this event for the best of the best sand sculpture genius.

St. Pete Beach Nightlife: Beach bar hot spots keep the volume pumping well into the night. The Hurricane Lounge in Pass-A-Grille is always up for party goers. Madeira is home to the John's Pass Village and Boardwalk, which offers up some trendy restaurants and unique bars.

St. Pete Beach Weather: The average temperature in St. Pete is 73F with 361 days of annual sunshine.

St. Pete Beach Facilities: Endless parking, with numerous washrooms. Vendors along the beach offer rental gear for all your water sport needs. Pets are not allowed on the beach and there are no lifeguards.

Beach Fees: Parking at St. Pete Beach is metered and costs around $2.50 an hour.
