More than 200 flights diverted

Emergency Landing Causes Flight DelaysEmergency Landing Causes Flight DelaysA British Airways Boeing 777 suffered massive damage in yesterday's crash landing. Pictures show the plane's wheels on the ground post-landing, no longer attached to the aircraft. Heathrow airport, which usually sees 1300 flights per day, was in chaos, with 200 flights diverted. If you're trying to fly out of London today, be prepared for the delays.

The crash is especially stunning because no Boeing 777 has crashed before. In their ten years of service, the planes have earned a reputation as some of the safest in the world, but that may be changing. A BBC source reports that "the captain had told him that the Boeing 777-200ER had lost all power after "all the electronics" failed while the plane came in to land."

Hopefully everyone on board the flight from Beijing paid close attention to their safety demonstration. After the plane came to a halt, all passengers used inflatable emergency slides to exit the plane. Miraculously, only 18 of those passengers were treated for whiplash, with one woman staying in hospital overnight .

Everyone was shocked by the dangerous touchdown, having experienced a lengthy, but uneventful flight. The tension will mount in the coming days, since their stories will play a major part in the Air Accident Investigation.

Can you tell us more about what happened on BA flight 038?

I had just purchased it on board the ship the day prior. But nothing can compare to the loss of a family member. The Captain had everyones attention for the announcement. Captain Draper done a great job informing the passengers of the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rumphrey family."

I was very impressed with the way Captain Draper handled the situation and I told him so. He made it a priority to inform all passengers and eliminated rumor and speculation. It's nice to know the other passengers involved felt the driver saved their lives. The roads in Tortola are terrible and I'm sure much skill is involvd navigating them safely. I hope you enjoyed your cruise, despite this tragedy. Julia"
