What's Your Travel Horoscope?

How to plan your perfect vacation with a little help from the stars

Can’t decide where to travel on your next vacation? You have a finite number of days away from work each year and if you’re like me, you want each one of those days to be filled with the adventure of travel. Don’t sweat it. Pick your next vacation based on your astrological sign.

Aquarius (January 21 – February 19)

Aquarians are innately curious and creative explorers. They’re excited by hidden gems off-the-beaten path – and a little mystery doesn’t hurt either.

Pisces (February 20 – March 20)

Pisceans are laidback travelers and crave places where there’s no cell reception – a beach or mountain getaway is perfect. Actually any place that offers sanctuary from their busy lives works for these folks.

laidback on the beachBest travel choices for Pisces

  • Half Moon Bay Beach, Antigua. Though not undiscovered, it’s quiet enough to offer the required feeling solitude.
  • Blue Lagoon Spa, Iceland. An outdoor hot springs carved out of Icelandic rock and bubbling with warm, electric-blue geothermal seawater. Sounds blissful, right?

Aries (March 21 – April 20)

Aries-born travelers seek out active, lung-busting adventures. But they need an itinerary to make sure they spend their entire vacation adventuring – not wasting time deciding what to do.

seeking adventuresBest travel choices for Aries

  • Choose a haunted hotel for a different kind of adrenaline rush. If you dare!
  • Volunteer travel offers a smorgasbord of teachable moments. What’s more, the itinerary is usually packed so there’s no chance of getting bored.

Taurus (April 21 – May 21)

Food and pampering are key to a successful vacation for Taurus-born travelers. They crave exquisite and rich flavors as much as they demand top-drawer service. Nothing less than 5-star, if you please.

top-drawer experiencesBest travel choices for Taurus

  • Honor Mansion in Healdsburg, California. Some guests say a visit here is a cross between a holiday at the Ritz and a visit to a dear friend's home. We think it's a like waking up in the middle of a fairy tale.
  • The Shangri-La Toronto boasts some of the largest hotel rooms in Canada and earn their stars through the thoughtful additions – and the friendly, attentive staff who seem to know what you need before you do.

Gemini (May 22 – June 21)

Social and active travelers, Geminis love to spend their vacations in bustling, crowded cities where they can meet new friends and soak up a different culture at the same time.

active adventurersBest travel choices for Gemini

  • Freemont Street in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s seedy, a little ugly around the edges and just being there can make you feel better about all your choices in life – but it’s an experience you can’t get anywhere else in the world.
  • Prague. Welcome to the city of high-drama scene-y mayhem and the beer capital of the world. But you might want to consider chasing cocktails here too…

Cancer (June 22 – July 22)

Cancer-born folks aren’t natural travelers but when they do venture off the front porch, they seek out homey, low-key surroundings. They often choose their vacations based on where they can visit (read: stay with) friends or family.

relaxation for its own sakeBest travel choices for Cancer

  • Lake Cumberland, Kentucky. Rent a houseboat with 6 private bedrooms (for your family or girlfriends – or both!), a fully equipped kitchen and dining room, rooftop hot tub, central heat and air...Sounds sweet, right?
  • Emmerson Resort & Spa on Mount Tremper, New York, perched on the edge of a meandering creek, with views of the mountains from every balcony. You’ll feel welcomed like family.

Leo (July 23 – August 21)

Ask a Leo what’s in her bucket list and you’ll likely be given a list of posh destinations. Because she loves music and culturally-rich cities, she probably plans her vacations around seasonal festivals.

culturally rich adventuresBest travel choices for Leo

  • Isla Mujeres, Mexico, For truly delightful authentic Mexican food and crafts, head to the Zocolo (town square) 4pm to 7pm on the first Thursday of every month.
  • Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa – America’s only native-owned resort. the resort stretches across the land, rather than rising up and infringing on the skyline. Guest rooms are dived into two wings and designed with reflections of the two different tribes in the community.

Virgo (August 22 – September 23)

Oh those well-organized, analytical Virgos – they don’t like surprises when they travel. They’re the travelers with guidebooks in hand and a fully-stocked itinerary. And yes, they’re sticklers for punctuality.

organized adventuresBest travel choices for Virgo

  • Rome. Virgos like to walk and we clocked over 60,000 excited steps as we toured Rome over 3 days – our philosophy was walk more, eat and drink more!
  • San Antonio, Texas. Whether you're in the hotbed of margarita-ville on the River Walk or listening to the wind whisper through the oak trees where William Travis drew his famous line in the sand, it's a special place – with great food.

Libra (September 24 – October 23)

If you want a travel buddy who’s easy going and not easily shocked, grab a Libra friend and get lost. But be warned – they like to get crazy once in a while too. Beach, spa or adventure, they’re up for anything.

up for anything adventuresBest travel choices for Libra

  • Desire Resorts, Mexico. The goal here is to connect you to your partner. Everything from the décor to the food to the spa is designed to lead you closer to that connection.
  • St. Kitts Volcanic Crater Hike. Let me introduce you to Mt. Liamuiga - a 3000 ft volcano. She hasn't breathed fire for almost 2000 years, but a hike to the rim proves she's still as mighty as ever.

Scorpio (October 24 – November 22)

Scorpions are happiest when they travel to secluded, quiet places that allow them to spend time reading or chatting with their special someone. Avoid big cities and frivolous social settings, for these folks.

grand, quiet placesBest travel choices for Scorpio

  • Finger Lakes wine tour (New York). spectacular hillside views with grapevines (or apple orchards) lining the hillsides, quaint small villages and hamlets, majestic century-old estates and more than 100 wineries and micro-breweries in the region.
  • Solo wellness vacation. Get up close to nature, for rest and relaxation, to learn how to eat and cook more nutritiously, or to simply take a time out.

Sagittarius (November 23 – December 22)

Sagittarians are travel junkies, always craving more – kind of like your 8-year-old self after eating a pound of fudge. They get bored quickly and are happy to pack their travels with lots of learning – but they need to be outdoors too.

craving something newBest travel choices for Sagittarius

Capricorn (December 23 – January 20)

Capricorns are sun-seekers when they travel. While they can be adventurous, they prefer places where they can kick back and enjoy the scenery.

sun seeking adventuresBest travel choices for Capricorn

  • Bermuda Beautiful beaches, rich history and lots and lots of sunshine. Perfect.
  • Caribbean cruise. Actually any cruise that tours through warm climates. Capricorns could easily become cruise addicts, which isn’t such a bad thing when you think about it…

It is the New Terra Cotta Clothing Optional Resort and Spa in sunny Palm Springs, California.. The original Terra Cotta Inn was a fantastic nude resort. Repeat guests from around the world stayed there. TCI was sold in Nov 2015 and greatly missed. Well, this July 2017, it was revived at a new location in Palm Springs. The site is HotelTerraCotta.com. Guests are super happy. It's perfect for couples and girlfriend getaways. And Tom and Mary Clare from the original Terra Cotta Inn work with us, so it has the same relaxing, fun feel. "

I understand in the litigious US of A, hotels need to prevent folks from throwing themselves out the windows (or else the hotel could be sued?!!). Ok, fine. But for those of us who dislike A/C and only use it when absolutely necessary, can't we still have the option for some FRESH AIR? There ARE ways to allow windows to open up only so much, while at the same time preventing an entire body from throwing itself out the window. Bedskirts. Am I the only one who gets the skeevies when I see hotel beds with bedskirts that hit the floor? I always had images of food crumbs, bugs, and god only knows what...as being hidden behind that bedskirt. I'd much rather a bedskirt that's at least 2" above the (usually carpetted) floor. Towels. Can't we get nicer towels that don't feel like cardboard? Carpetting. Am I the only one who never walks barefoot in a hotel room ...esp when there's carpet? Blech. I'm sure those things are very rarely cleaned. "
