Dez Bartelt tells GG why she loves Patagonia

Travel Argentina in LuxuryTravel Argentina in LuxuryI'm often asked to talk about some my favorite places to travel. So, just for my friends at GoGirlfriend, I'm giving up the inside scoop on luxury adventure travel in Patagonia, Argentina.

San Carlos de Bariloche is my "Switzerland" in the province of Río Negro, Argentina, South America.

It's a luxury playground for the rich and famous, but it's also my home. This region of Patagonia lays claim virgin green forests set against snow-capped mountains and deep blue lakes. Travel Argentina in LuxuryTravel Argentina in Luxury

The Lake District is not only beautiful - it's an Eden where every breath is fresh and healing. Such natural beauty has even enticed celebrities like Madonna to take up residence here.

While in this region of Argentina, you'll experience true luxury in a fairytale setting. Enjoy adventure in style during the day while being pampered with spa treatments and 5 star gourmet meals in the evening.

Make sure you find time to visit the cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires and enjoy a tour of the city's museums, art galleries, fairs and antique markets.

Sample some exquisite Argentinean wine at a private wine tasting session with an expert sommelier. Enjoy gourmet authentic meals in fine restaurants, and linger over cocktails in one of the many chic bars and lounges.

Finish your evening with a traditional tango show at Esquina Gardel, or enjoy a private box at the world-class Teatro Colón (Colón Theater).

You also must see the architect Alejandro Bustillo's marvel: Llao Llao Golf and Spa Resort. Located on a small hill between lakes Nahuel Huapi and Moreno, the Llao Llao is ideally situated.

Imagine yourself sailing in luxurious style as you enjoy the deep waters of Lake Nahuel Huapi aboard a private sailing boat. Or simply picture yourself relaxing in the marvelous outdoor heated swimming pool while watching the sun set over Mount Tronador.

This is the best in luxury travel Argentina has to offer.

Actually, where I sit currently (on a barrier island) has been under water many times. Staying on an island is scary. We leave if it is over a CAT 1. The most important thing for us is to fill our gas tanks at the first inkling that there may be a storm. Water, medicines, non perishable food, they're all really important. Honestly, if it is a big storm, alcohol later serves as pay for work. We stock up on EVERYTHING. We start eating out of the freezer days before (like we did tonight, getting ready for Earl). You don't want much to go bad. Then we tie up all the trash cans, secure grills, and hold on for dear life :)"

  • On American Tourist Kidnappings on the Rise in Mexico, Roger said "Better not to drive if you can travel by bus. Buses are not apt to be targets like cars with US plates that also can be stolen. The buses in Mexico are very comfortable like flying in a plane they often have movies and it is safer.Plan your trip and don't travel alone especially if you are female.Women traveling alone are a target Good luck and stay alert."
