Shopping overload on Macau beach

It's Santa season and shopping has predictably turnedShopping OverloadShopping Overload into a nightmare all around the world. But chances are, your shopping hassles are nothing compared to what Chinese tourists went through recently - and they wanted to avoid the mall.

Mutiny in Macau

Feeling forced to shop till they drop, tourists staged a mutiny in Macau against unscrupulous tour operators. Riot police were called in, tourists forced back to their hotels. The problem? Too many stores and not enough culture.

A prime stop for tourists, Miniature Macau surpasses Las Vegas in gambling revenue (cha-ching!), and is currently on MSNBC's top ten gambling getaways. Casinos and stores in the area team up with tour operators and offer free bus tours to the area. While tourists think it's a free ride to fun, it's really a plot to get more cash in the area. Shocking.

Things got nasty apparently when tourists were kicked off buses on a windy beach. They wanted back on board, but apparently hadn't met their spend quota yet. More than 100 tourists and guides endured a 5-hour stand-off against riot police.

Sounds like boxing day in reverse.

Actually, where I sit currently (on a barrier island) has been under water many times. Staying on an island is scary. We leave if it is over a CAT 1. The most important thing for us is to fill our gas tanks at the first inkling that there may be a storm. Water, medicines, non perishable food, they're all really important. Honestly, if it is a big storm, alcohol later serves as pay for work. We stock up on EVERYTHING. We start eating out of the freezer days before (like we did tonight, getting ready for Earl). You don't want much to go bad. Then we tie up all the trash cans, secure grills, and hold on for dear life :)"

The buses in Mexico are very comfortable like flying in a plane they often have movies and it is safer.Plan your trip and don't travel alone especially if you are female.Women traveling alone are a target Good luck and stay alert."
