Let the good times roll, Mid-western style, of course

Des Moines, IowaDes Moines, IowaThe writer's strike left you with nothing to watch? My advice: Get outta town, sista!

Des Moines may not be New York and it's certainly not Las Vegas, but if you're ready to get off the hamster wheel and want something to do (other than watch Lost reruns), we're betting you'll find something fun here.

Jordan Creek Town Center

The Jordan Creek Town Center sprawls an impressive 2 million square feet and features 3 unique districts:
  • Shopping District: Enclosed shopping mall.
  • Lake District: A 3.5 acre lake surrounded by bike trails, walkways and a boardwalk of restaurants and a hotel.
  • Village District: A collection of specialty retailers.
  •

    Historic Valley Junction

Step back in time, and experience a living history of Des Moines. It all started with wooden sidewalks in the 1800s, when the town lived around the railroad depot. Today, you'll discover an assortment of shops with a touch of nostalgia left in them - ranging from antique stores, jewelry shops, art galleries, bakeries, restaurants, a tearoom and more. Start your Valley Junction journey at the Fifth Street Fountain with an old-fashioned malt. Later in the day, check out Café Su, a local favorite for dinner.

    West Glen Town Center

Looking for a more upscale way to spend your time in Des Moines? Grab your friends, and shop the boutiques at West Glen Town Center. Take a break Spa TreatmentsSpa Treatmentsfrom shopping to treat yourself to a facial at The Spa at West Glen. Relax and gab with friends over dinner at Crave, a modern grill and bar featuring a fondue room.

I set up Hands Up Holidays with the passion to create amazing vacations where people got to learn about other cultures, explore a destination, and interact meaningfully with the locals, through the medium of carefully consulted volunteer projects. Families do indeed get a lot out of our trips, as do couples, single travellers, and seniors. Yours in Adventures That Count Chris "

Right now the agencies are still dealing with a lot of paperwork to get into Myanmar. However, once they are in, they need names and applications on file so they can call on you when they are ready to go. If your vacation dates are more structured, why don't you contact an agency which runs volunteer programs all the time, you'll be able to make a difference somewhere without driving your boss nuts waiting to find out when you're going. Good luck!"
