Culinary alchemy in Yountville, Sonoma

Good food shouldn't be rushed. It's as simple as that at French Laundry, voted "Best Restaurant in the World" by Restaurant Magazine.

French Laundry in Sonoma, is one of 3 restaurants in the trendy, but upscale chain (the French LaundryFrench Laundryothers are in New York and Vegas). It opened in 1998 and offers authentic French bistro fare - if you're willing to wait at least 2 months for a reservation.

It's worth the wait though. The service is formal and seamless, the pace unhurried and languid and Chef Keller a master of his trade. Expect to spend at least 3 hours as course after course parades across your plate.

The décor is just as beautiful as the food with a French zinc bar, a mosaic floor, antique light fixtures and an expansive hand-painted mural by French artist, Paulin French LaundryFrench LaundryParis. During the summer, take a seat on the flower-filled patio, the perfect complement to Keller's cuisine.

It's enough to make even the most seasoned foodie, well, drool.

If you go...

A word of warning. Dress appropriately - shorts, sneakers, jeans will revoke your reservation. And it's a fixed price menu:

  • Vegetarian menu: $80US
  • 5-course menu: $105US
  • Chef's tasting menu: $175US

Families do indeed get a lot out of our trips, as do couples, single travellers, and seniors. Yours in Adventures That Count Chris "

Right now the agencies are still dealing with a lot of paperwork to get into Myanmar. However, once they are in, they need names and applications on file so they can call on you when they are ready to go. If your vacation dates are more structured, why don't you contact an agency which runs volunteer programs all the time, you'll be able to make a difference somewhere without driving your boss nuts waiting to find out when you're going. Good luck!"
