The Seychelles Islands delight the eyes, with the vivid green of the Indian Ocean and soft white sand. And although the 115 scattered islands are sparsely populated, they have a healthy tourist economy, and plenty of amenities to keep you cozy.

Island Retreat?Island Retreat? If you've got fairy-tale loving friends (or you've always harbored a secret pirate fantasy) the Seychelles are the perfect place to visit. Pirates and traders have battled the islands since the 1700s, even flowing through to the modern day.

Praslin, one of the larger islands, made the news this week when Today Show correspondent Matt Lauer paid the island a visit. His crew caught some incredible footage of the scenery, which you can see here:

Firefox users, if you're having trouble seeing the video you can try viewing it on MSNBC.

Temper your treks into the Seychelles' tumultuous history with plenty of time on the beach. There are 12 hours of daylight, every day, and the beaches still seem unspoiled. If you're into sailing, you can travel between the islands and take in even more scenery - seeing everything from tiny coral outcrops masquerading as land, to the larger, more developed islands, and the smaller islands inhabited only by locals.

Buyers beware though, the Seychelles are notoriously expensive - but well worth it. Split rooms with friends, beg for money, or cut out another overseas trip. Even seasoned travelers are bowled over by the islands' lush beauty.

Feeling tempted? Gather your girlfriends and check out the Seychelles Islands' tourism information and island conservation projects. You can fly in from Johannesburg or London, so if you have the time, spend a few days enjoying the scenery at your stopover.

I am currently living in Chengdu and was here for the earthquake. Although some of the nearby cities suffered major damage, damage in Chengdu was very limited. I have heard reports of a building that collapsed and a couple buildings suffered minor structural damage but, by in large, tourist trips to the area will not be impeded at all. The day following the quake most stores in the city were closed but everything in Chengdu should return to normal by the weekend at the latest. It is a great city and I would encourage people not to change their travel plans. "
